In 1994, Rwanda was torn apart by a brutal genocide in which nearly one million lives were lost in just 100 days. In the midst of this horror, Immaculée Ilibagiza and seven other women hid for 91 days in a tiny bathroom while killers searched for them. Surrounded by fear and grief, Immaculée turned constantly to the Rosary of the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady, a devotion her mother had taught her. In that hidden place, God worked a miracle: instead of hatred taking root in her heart, she was filled with peace and the grace to forgive those who had murdered her family. Emerging from hiding, she bore witness that the Rosary of the Seven Sorrows is not only a prayer of mourning but a source of hope, healing, and the triumph of forgiveness over evil. May her story inspire us to take up this powerful devotion, trusting that Our Lady of Sorrows will lead us from suffering into the peace of Christ.
