Welcome to Holy Rosary Shrine!

With great gratitude to Our Lord and our archbishop, Cardinal Sean O’Malley, we begin this new chapter in the rich history of Holy Rosary Church in Lawrence, Massachusetts. For the benefit of all the Decree of erection is shown below:

The Shrine will be administered by the Franciscans of Primitive Observance, a small community of priests and brothers in the Archdiocese of Boston. We ask for your prayers and invite all to visit our beautiful shrine church. Please see the schedule of Masses, confessions, devotions and office hours.

A special note of thanks to all the parishioners of Corpus Christi Parish for your encouragement and support during this time of transition. Thanks also for your patience and trust in Jesus and Our Blessed Mother. Change is not easy and many of you have already suffered through the closing of your prior parish. We hope that you will continue to find your spiritual home and family at “HRS”.

“In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (Jn 16:33)

God bless you.

Father Peter Giroux, FPO
Rector

Our History

Holy Rosary Church was founded by and for Italian immigrants in 1904. Later, in the 1960’s, it embraced the first Cuban population to arrive in Lawrence, and also other Hispanic communities.

On November 1, 2004, the Archdiocese of Boston established Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church as a territorial parish. This parish was created by uniting four national parishes in Lawrence:

  • St. Francis (Lithuanian) established in 1903
  • Holy Rosary (Italian) established in 1904
  • Holy Trinity (Polish) established in 1905
  • Saints Peter & Paul (Portuguese) established in 1907

On December 1, 2021 Corpus Christi Parish at Holy Rosary Church became Holy Rosary Shrine. The rich history of this beautiful church, and the many ethnic communities associated with her, continues now with a new mission and identity while remaining the spiritual home of those who have come here for so many years.
