Communism in Brazil

In the early 1960s, as President Goulart pushed to spread Communism in Brazil, a retired teacher named Amelia Bastos formed the “Campaign of Women for Democracy.” What began as a small group quickly grew into a national movement of hundreds of thousands of women. They organized massive Rosary rallies, including one in São Paulo with over 600,000 women praying and marching peacefully with anti-communist banners.

Their peaceful resistance, rooted in prayer and devotion to Mary, played a key role in stopping the Communist takeover. After Goulart’s rule ended, over a million people joined the women in a “March of Thanksgiving to God,” celebrating the victory with gratitude and faith.
