Blessed Bartolo Longo and the Power of the Rosary

Blessed Bartolo Longo, once a practicing lawyer in Italy, began his adult life far from the Catholic faith. As a young man, he became involved with anti-Catholic movements and even participated in spiritualism and satanism, falling into despair and near ruin. It was through the prayers of loved ones and the guidance of a Dominican friar that he found his way back to Christ. After his conversion, Bartolo made a vow to dedicate his life to the service of Our Lady and to spreading devotion to the Rosary.

With great zeal, he began teaching the Rosary to children and families in the poor town of Pompeii. In time, his efforts led to the building of the famous Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary at Pompeii, which became a worldwide center of Marian devotion and service to the poor. Bartolo himself testified that the Rosary saved his life, lifting him from despair to joy and healing.

His story is a powerful reminder that no one is beyond the reach of Mary’s intercession. The Rosary can transform even the darkest past into a path of hope and holiness.
