Miracle of the Ice Bridge

In the winter of 1879, the parish of Cap-de-la-Madeleine in Quebec faced a serious problem: stone needed for a new church lay across the St. Lawrence River, but the season was so mild that no ice bridge had formed. Without a crossing, the project seemed impossible. Father Luc Desilets called his parishioners to prayer, urging them to take up the rosary with renewed devotion. The people prayed faithfully, and in March, large ice floes suddenly converged to form a continuous bridge across the river. Volunteers poured water over the floes to solidify the crossing, and the stones for the church were safely hauled across. This “Rosary Bridge” was hailed as a miracle through Mary’s intercession, showing the power of praying the rosary with faith.

The Church built with those stones still stands today as a place of prayer and pilgrimage.
