The Miracle on the Vistula: When the Rosary Saved Poland
In the summer of 1920, Europe trembled as the Bolshevik Red Army swept westward from Russia, vowing to spread atheistic communism across the continent. Their next target was Catholic Poland, newly reborn after centuries of partition. The Polish people faced annihilation, and with few weapons and little hope, they turned not to generals but to God and His Mother. Across the nation, churches filled day and night with the sound of the Rosary, as men, women, and children begged Mary, Queen of Poland, to save their homeland.
Then, at the Battle of Warsaw, the impossible happened. Against overwhelming odds, the Polish army repelled the Soviet forces in what came to be known as the Miracle on the Vistula. Soldiers and villagers alike spoke of Our Lady appearing in the skies, shining above the smoke of battle and striking fear into the invaders. The victory was so sudden and complete that even unbelievers called it a miracle. To this day, Catholics remember it as a triumph of faith, prayer, and the power of the Rosary—a moment when Heaven itself seemed to defend a nation that would not cease to trust in Mary.
