Preparation for the Sacraments is something normally done in parishes and not in shrine churches. Holy Rosary Shrine (HRS) is not a parish and has a Rector, not a Pastor, and no territory of responsibility. However, HRS does have permission to do Infant Baptisms, Funerals and Weddings. We do not have an Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) Program, (formerly RCIA), for preparing adults for Baptism. Depending on the circumstances, we may be able to provide preparation for baptized adults who are seeking First Communion and/or Confirmation.
Shrine families who desire religious education and First Communion or Confirmation preparation for their children can enroll them in classes offered by the parish in which they live. Other arrangements may be made with permission of the Pastor. These children may receive these Sacraments at HRS regardless of where they have their preparation.
Please contact the Shrine office if you would like to arrange a funeral, infant Baptism or wedding. For the Sacrament of Marriage, it is important to speak with one of the priests at least six months prior to the time you would like to get married.
Please do not make any definitive wedding plans, such as booking a hall for the reception, before speaking to the priest!
For the Sacrament of the Sick, the local Pastor has the responsibility and authority for people in his parish territory. In an emergency, every hospital should have a priest on call whom the hospital staff can notify. Shrine priests are available for emergencies or with the Pastor’s approval.
