Saved by the Rosary

While serving in Afghanistan, British Guardsman Glenn Hockton wore a Rosary that his mother had given him. Though he did not practice the faith, he carried the Rosary out of love and respect for her wishes. During a patrol, the beads slipped from his neck and fell to the ground. When he bent down to retrieve them, he realized he was standing directly over a hidden land mine. Remaining completely still, he waited nearly 45 minutes until the explosive could be safely removed, sparing his life.

Glenn was deeply struck because he already knew the story of his great-grandfather, who had survived a deadly explosion during World War II after stopping to pick up his own rosary beads. For the family, the connection was clear: across generations and battlefields, the Blessed Virgin Mary had lovingly intervened.

Through the Holy Rosary, Our Lady once again led her child away from danger and toward the saving mercy of her Son.
