The Rosary on the Titanic

When the Titanic began to sink on April 15, 1912, Father Thomas Byles, a Catholic priest from England, refused two offers to board a lifeboat. Instead, he stayed on deck among the terrified passengers—hearing confessions, leading the Rosary, and offering absolution as chaos erupted around him. Survivors later recalled how hundreds knelt and prayed with him, clutching their rosaries while icy waters rose.

Amid fear and confusion, Father Byles stood firm with supernatural courage, calm and steadfast in faith. In that final hour, he showed that the Rosary brings strength in suffering and peace in the storm, our lifeline to Heaven when all else fails.
