St. Francis of Assisi, Earlier Rule, Chapter XVI
“If they persecute you in one city, flee to another. Blessed are you when men will hate you and persecute you and accuse you of evil, and when they will falsely speak all manner of evil against you for my sake. Rejoice on that day and exult for your reward is great in heaven. I say to you, my friends, do not be afraid of these things. And do not fear those who kill the body and afterwards have nothing more they can do.”
